An Introduction on Opalite Stones

Opalite is a soft and subtle stone with an opalescent appearance. Its color is usually semitransparent or milky. Other names for this glass product include Tiffany Stone, Ice Cream Opal and Purple Opal and it can usually be found in areas in Africa and Brazil. There are also man-made opalites, which are created in way of opalizing glass to make the stunning colors.



When opalite glass is placed on a dark background, the color appears as blue. When placed on a light background, it is milky white with an orange or pink glow.


Natural Opalite has same basic chemical properties as opal and when the stone is cut into a cabochon, a cat’s eye effect will be displayed on it. As for man-made opalite, because it is made of glass, there sometimes may be air bubbles in it.
