Some Methods of Gem Cutting

 The first and the most common way you may see is like this, oval-cutting. Gemstones cut this way will display a soft line observed from the top. Sometimes it will be as shiny as diamonds. And if you make a oval gemstone to make a ring or pendant necklace, the finger will appear to be slender and long. So it is especially fits girls with short fingers.

The second common way is called round or circle cutting. Now many colored gems are also cut this way because it will make the brightest gems. Also is the carat are the same, round shaped gems will appear to be bigger than that of other shapes. You may also noticed that in terms of diamonds, round diamonds are usually more expensive than other fancy shapes. This is because that while cutting and polishing round diamonds, the attrition rate can reach as high as 47%. However, if producing other shapes of diamonds, the attrition rate can be controlled at 40%-45%. And a small piece of waste of these materials means a huge loss.

Other shapes like pear-shaped and heart-shaped gems are usually favored by young girls. Actually the cutting ways is kinda of wasting the material, but we have to admit that the finished products are very pretty. In addition, though the upvaluation of fancy shaped diamonds are not as fast as round diamonds, almost all world famous diamonds are not round.
