Stories about Watches
You may have noticed that there are also watches selling on PandaHall. There are traditional ones like these quartz watches and vintage style pocket watch. Some of them has common leather watchband and some has beaded ones. For watch lovers, you will have a wide choice here.
In this blog, we would like to share some basic knowledge about watches with you, you can read it for fun.
First one is easy, maybe all watch lovers know this. A simple way to tell if it is a quartz watch or a mechanical one is by looking at the pointer. If it is moving forward step by step then it is usually a quartz watch because mechanical watches move in circles and won’t stop halfway.
Another thing is regulator. Chinese people would call it “three pointers and one line” orally. It means that the three hands have their own dial instead of sharing one dial. And “one line” refers to the position of the three hands. The fixed part of these hands are located on the line if 12 and 6 o’clock are connected. On the dial, it is often written as “Regulator”.
The third story has something to do with the advertisements of watches. You may noticed that in some of those advertisements, the time on the watch is always 10:10. Concerning this, there are two different explanations. One says that because 10:10 on the clock look like letter “V” and we all know that it means “victory”. Business owners use this to imply something positive. In the other story, it says that 10:10 looks like a pair of wings and it makes people feel active and hopeful. In addition, it complies with aesthetical principle of symmetry.
